MY Tallow Skincare FAQ
Natural, nourishing skincare for Malaysian skin needs
We received so many questions about how tallow works, what skin types it helps with, and how to use it — and we love that!
To make things easier for everyone, we put together this FAQ to answer the most common questions all in one place. Whether you're new to natural skincare or just curious about how tallow fits into your routine, this guide is here to help you feel confident and informed.
What is tallow, and why is it good for the skin
Nourish You from the Inside Out — with the Power of Pure Tallow
At tallow & broth co, we believe skincare and wellness should be as natural and effective as possible. That’s why our star products are built around pure, grass-fed tallow—a timeless, nutrient-rich ingredient that works both on your skin and in your kitchen.
Tallow is a type of natural fat made by gently rendering the fat of grass-fed cows. It’s packed with vitamins like A, D, E, and K—plus good fats your skin loves. Because it’s similar to the oils (sebum) your skin already makes, it absorbs easily and deeply nourishes the skin.
What makes your tallow different?
We only use 100% grass-fed, ethically sourced tallow—no fillers, no synthetics, just pure, skin-loving ingredients made in small batches with care.
Can I use it on my face?
Absolutely. In fact, many of our customers use it as a daily face moisturizer, night cream, or even to soothe skin irritations like eczema or rosacea.
Can I use it for anything other than skin care?
Yes! Our customers also use it for dry lips, cracked heels, cuticle care, and even as a natural makeup remover or aftershave balm.
Does it smell like beef?
Our beef tallow is completely unscented—we don’t add any fragrances or essential oils. While tallow does have a very faint natural aroma, it's mild and typically fades quickly after application. Perfect for sensitive noses or anyone who prefers a neutral product!
The tallow feels oily and greasy on my skin. What should I do?
Tallow is very rich, so a little goes a long way! If it feels oily or greasy, it usually means you're using too much.
Here’s how to fix it:
-
Use a tiny amount — about a pea-sized amount is enough for your whole face.
-
Warm it between your fingers before applying to help it spread thinly and evenly.
-
Let it absorb for a few minutes. It soaks in better if your skin is slightly damp (like after washing your face).
-
Blot gently with a clean tissue if you feel any extra on the surface after a few minutes.
Over time, as your skin balances itself, you might find you need even less product to stay moisturized!
Can I use beef tallow under sunscreen or makeup?
Yes, you can! Our beef tallow makes an excellent base layer under sunscreen or makeup. Just apply a small amount, let it fully absorb into your skin for a few minutes, and then continue with your routine. It helps create a smooth, hydrated surface that works well with both mineral and liquid products. Plus, it keeps your skin nourished all day long.
Why should I choose beef tallow instead of my regular moisturizer?
Here’s why beef tallow stands out:
-
It’s 100% natural – no synthetic chemicals, fillers, or preservatives. Just pure, nourishing fat from grass-fed cows.
-
Mimics your skin’s natural oils – which means it absorbs easily, moisturizes deeply, and supports skin barrier repair.
-
Rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K – essential nutrients your skin needs to stay healthy, smooth, and resilient.
-
Non-comedogenic and gentle – great for sensitive, dry, or acne-prone skin without clogging pores.
-
Long-lasting hydration – unlike water-based moisturizers that evaporate quickly, tallow locks in moisture all day.
Many people switch to tallow and never look back—especially once they feel how soft, calm, and nourished their skin becomes.
Can I use your beef tallow as a base for makeup?
Yes, you can! Our unscented beef tallow works beautifully as a natural makeup primer or base. It creates a smooth, moisturized surface that helps makeup glide on evenly and stay put. Just apply a thin layer, let it absorb for a few minutes, and you're good to go! It's especially great for dry or sensitive skin types.
My tallow melted—what should I do?
No worries! It’s totally normal for tallow to soften or melt in warmer temperatures since it's a natural fat. The good news is it doesn’t affect the quality or effectiveness of the product.
If it has fully melted, just pop the container in the fridge for a few hours to let it solidify again. It might change texture slightly (becoming more whipped or grainy), but it will still work just as well on your skin.
To avoid future melting, try storing it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
What improvements can I expect to see on my face if I use beef tallow every day?
With consistent daily use, many of our customers notice:
-
Softer, smoother skin – thanks to the rich, natural fats that deeply moisturize.
-
Improved skin texture and tone – tallow supports your skin's barrier and may help reduce redness and flakiness.
-
Fewer breakouts or irritation – because it’s non-comedogenic and free of harsh chemicals.
-
A healthy, natural glow – as your skin stays hydrated and balanced.
Since tallow closely mimics our skin's natural oils, it absorbs beautifully without clogging pores, making it ideal for sensitive or reactive skin.
Does your beef tallow expire?
Yes, like any natural product, our beef tallow does have a shelf life. When stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, it typically lasts 12 to 18 months. There are no added preservatives, but tallow is naturally stable—so it stays fresh for quite a while! If you ever notice a change in color, texture, or smell, it might be time to replace it.
Skin Compatibility
Tallow’s fatty acid profile is similar to that of human skin’s sebum. This makes it highly compatible and non-irritating for many people, especially those with sensitive or dry skin.
What skin problems can tallow help with?
Tallow is a versatile skincare remedy. It can help with:
-
Dry and flaky skin
-
Eczema or gatal-gatal
-
Sensitive skin
-
Breakouts or acne
-
Aging skin – fine lines or wrinkles
-
Stretch marks & scars
-
Cracked heels or hands
-
Rashes and baby diaper rash
-
Sunburn, especially in our tropical heat
Is tallow suitable for hot and humid weather?
Whether dealing with the harsh sun or humidity, tallow’s natural properties make it a reliable solution for our tropical weather. It absorbs quickly, balances oils, and doesn’t leave a greasy residue, making it ideal for all skin types—whether dry, oily, or combination.
Embrace the power of natural skincare with tallow. It’s time to nourish, protect, and love your skin the way nature intended.
Can tallow help with eczema, psoriasis, or sensitive skin?
Yes. Tallow has anti-inflammatory properties and supports skin healing. Many Malaysians use it to soothe eczema, allergic reactions, or sensitive skin caused by heat, sweat, or harsh products.
Will it clog pores or make acne worse?
No. Tallow is non-comedogenic, meaning it won't clog your pores. It actually helps reduce inflammation and balances your skin's oil, which may prevent breakouts over time.
Can I use tallow for my baby or children?
Yes! Tallow is 100% natural and gentle enough for baby skin. It’s great for diaper rash, cradle cap, and even minor rashes or insect bites. Choose the unscented version for newborns or sensitive skin.
Does tallow smell like daging or lemak?
Not at all. High-quality, properly rendered tallow has a neutral or slightly earthy smell. Most tallow products are blended with essential oils (like lavender or lemongrass) to smell fresh and pleasant.
Is it halal?
If sourced and rendered from halal-certified, grass-fed cows, tallow is considered halal. We recommend checking the product label or seller's certification to confirm.
How do I use tallow balm or cream?
Just apply a small amount to clean skin—face, body, lips, hands, or feet. Rub it in gently. It melts easily and gets absorbed fast. A little goes a long way!
